Pencil Cap Algae (Penicillus capitatus)
+ May 19, 2009
Unfortunately, all specimens of this macro-algae have withered away.
+ February 28, 2009
Unfortunately, one of the pencil caps was over-grown by caulerpa and has since disappeared. The other specimen is still hanging
on and seems to be getting better. I have added two new specimens along side it.
+ January 10, 2009
Both specimens continue with their steady decline.
+ December 19, 2008
Both specimens have steadily deteriorated. However, they haven't shed any "leaves".

Pencil Cap algae is a calcified green algae that grows to about 4". Most herbivores will not consume it because of it's high
mineral content. It requires a fine, deep substrate.
I have just received two specimens of this macro-algae and they appear to be suffering shipping stress (one markedly more than
the other). I have been advised to expect them to die back dramatically before making a full come back.
