Green Ricordea (Ricordea florida)

+ May 19, 2009

I decided to remove the ricordea. It was hanging in there but had become a pale green color.

This ricordea is doing poorly right now. It has become extremely white with only a small tinge of green.

The ricordea has managed to move itself so that it is now facing the front of the tank.

Another picture of the ricordea. It is recovering from me inadvertantly leaving it in the dark for a few days while moving some live-rock around the tank.

A slightly better picture of the ricordea.

This is the best picture I could get of the ricordea, although it is still quite poor. Something about this angle seems to result in "washed-out" pictures. I will have to try playing with the camera's white balance settings next time.

In the bottom right corner, you can see that my maxima clam also appears "washed-out" in this picture.

Ricordea are among the most demanding of mushroom corals. They require strong lighting and good water conditions. They do, however, prefer lower flow than many corals. Ricordea are easily differentiated from other mushroom corals by the many small, bulbous tentacles that cover their surface ("raised dots"). Green, Caribbean ricordea are among the hardiest of their kind, although their requirements are still much higher than many other mushrooms corals.

I am having difficulty getting an in-focus picture of this specimen, probably because I have placed it towards the back of the aquarium. I think I will probably have to eventually move the live-rock I have attached it to towards the front temporarily in order to get a decent picture.
