Mermaid's Shot Glass (Acetabularia calyculus)

This macro-algae barely survived the tank crash. Although water problems in the refugium were minimal, the lack of light for so many days must have taken a toll on this specimen.

It is now in my current system.

Unfortunately, it appears that the astraea snails have been devouring this macro-algae. Only a few of it's stalks remain. I have removed all the astraea snails from the refugium and placed them in the main tank.

The Mermaid's Shot Glass is a close relative of the larger, hardier Mermaid's Wine Glass. Each stalk is actually an individual cell (one of the largest cells in nature). It requires moderate lighting and flow to do well.

The snails seem to love this macro-algae, although they don't seem to be consuming it.
